In its first-ever webinar, the US Mission of the Syrian Democratic Council hosted a discussion titled “The Future of North and East Syria” on July 20, 2020 with the Program on Peacebuilding and Human Rights at Columbia University.

In the discussion, officials and academics discussed the Turkish occupation of North and East Syria, UN peace talks on Syria, refugees and displaced persons, COVID risks, the collapse of the Syrian pound, humanitarian aid blockades, and resource shortages due to a decade of war and instability.
Speakers included Sinam Sherkany Mohamad, US Mission of the Syrian Democratic Council, Ambassador Peter Galbraith, author and elected official, Dana Stroul, Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and Dr. David Pollock, Washington Institute for Near East Policy. The event was moderated by David Phillips, head of the Program on Peacebuilding and Human Rights at Columbia University.
