As world leaders issue their congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden for his win in the US Presidential Election, officials from North and East Syria sent out their congratulations as well to the declared winner in the election.

Ilham Ahmed, Executive President of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), issued a statement on Twitter that read, “Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. I am looking forward to working with you. Nothing more joyful for us than seeing how democracies peacefully transition leadership through election not through conflict. With your help, new Syria can have a great democracy like the U.S.”

General Mazloum Abdi Kobane, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), issued a statement on Twitter that read, “I extend my warmest congratulations to @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris on their historic election victory. We look forward to continued close cooperation with the United States to protect our gains in the fight against Daesh and build a better future for Syrians.”

Sinam Sherkany Mohamad, Co-Chair of the US Mission of the Syrian Democratic Council, issued a statement on Twitter that read, “Congratulations to President-Elect @JoeBiden and Vice @KamalaHarris on their victory. We look forward to ongoing cooperation as we continue our shared fight against terrorism and work to build a peaceful, pluralist, and democratic Syria.

In addition to the above, an official letter of congratulations was sent to the President-Elect through formal channels. In part, that letter read:

“May our shared democratic spirit and focus on peace and security provide the basis for continued collaboration and cooperation between the SDC and the United States for the sake of our respective societies and peoples.”
