A key commander in the US military met with the head of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to underscore a shared commitment to cooperation in the region. Commander Mazloum Abdi of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) met with the new Commander of United States Central Command in the Middle East, in North and East Syria on April 13, 2022.
General Michael Corella of CENTCOM emphasized the commitment of the United States to the anti-ISIS mission in North and East Syria, as well as the support provided by the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS to the SDF. The general further pledged to increase support for securing prisons and camps that hold ISIS detainees and ISIS-affiliated people. The importance of maintaining stability and preventing a resurgence by ISIS was emphasized as well.
General Corella was also briefed on the conditions of al-Hawl Camp and the Hasakah Prison which was attacked in January by ISIS.
