Women’s Military Units Host Third Annual Conference

The Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) of North and East Syria held their third annual conference in Hasakah, Syria, on April 30, 2022. The conference was attended by 400 YPJ commanders and members, including SDF General Command members Newroz Ahmed and Sozdar Derik, as well as members of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, the Kongra Star Women’s Organization, and other officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

The conference consisted of reporting on the activities of the YPJ, discussions of the political and military situation in the region, reviews of the YPJ rules and procedures, and issuing recommendations for changes to training and procedures. The conference was opened with a minute of silence and opening speech that commemorated the sacrifices of the women martyrs in defeating ISIS and defending the values of the Women’s Revolution.
