As summer temperatures soared, wildfires swept through rural areas of Latakia on Syria’s coast. In response, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria dispatched 150 trained firefighting personnel, supported by 18 fire trucks, two ambulances, two fuel tankers, and two bulldozers, to assist local authorities in containing and extinguishing the blazes.
The fires erupted on July 3, rapidly spreading across more than 15,000 hectares of forests and farmland—an area exceeding 100 square kilometers. Before the flames were brought under control, more than 1,100 people were displaced.
For six days, firefighting teams worked around the clock alongside local authorities—primarily Syrian Civil Defense units—focusing their efforts on preventing the fires from reaching residential and agricultural areas.
After the teams from the Autonomous Administration returned to North and East Syria, the Administration expressed pride in its contribution to the management of a national environmental challenge facing all of Syria.
